Jim Gillespie House circa 1891. Vernacular farmhouse with Italianate elements. The Coates brothers built this house for Jim Gillespie. The structure was originally located on Main Street at the site of the Courthouse annex. It is now located at 704 North Main Street. This photo was taken before it was moved from 5th and Main to 704 North Main Street. The structure was purchased by Mike Canty and moved to its present location in 1972. The interior of the structure has been extresively remodeled but the exterior front facade remains intact. In order to adapt it to the sloping lot, a half-basement has been constructed and a stairway added to provide access to the rear entry.
The Home now operated as part of the Blue Goose Bed and Breakfast 10/05/2006. It was formerly the Penn Cove Bed and Breakfast.
The photo was originally stored in the Gillespie house folder in the Archives Storeroom.Lexicon
