Samuel Crockett's home burned in 1897 and the present structure was built around the old chimney. Sam emigrated in 1844 and was one of the original seven americans who settled north of the columbia river. He was at Budd's inlet but decided upon Whidbey Island when his family moved west.

PNRO inventory notes; In 1876 Sam Crockett sold his donation land claim to Thomas Calhoun. Calhoun built this home in 1890, but part of it burned in 1897. The house was rebuilt around the original fireplace which remained intact. Calhoun then sold to Herman and Margaret Wanamaker who lived here from 1920 until 1981. The Wanamaker's planted most of the trees and shrubbery around the house. Their daughter Franacis Hinton inherited the house and sold it to the current owner.
