The TELEGRAPH - A Racing Canoe
This canoe was made at La Conner Indigenous Reservation in 1910 by Charles and Dick Edwards. The TELEGRAPH was the winner of the International Canoe Races held at Coupeville - 1929-1941 inclusive. Manned by 11 men - a captain and 10 paddlers - the first crew was Charles and Dick Edwards, Charles Wilber, Willie Dan, Edward Hilliare, George Cagey, John Damoin, Timothy Bob, Jimmy Sampson, William Peter, and Joseph Cassimere. Their recorded average over the three mile course was 60 stroked (sic) per minute, time - 22 minutes, 30 seconds.Collection
