Description

Photo of the interior of a store - meats, hams, scale etc.. Large window on the left. Tall ceiling with lights hanging down. Two men in the far corner behind the glass covered case. Another machine is on the right on a ledge below a calendar with April 1928 showing. Caption: April 5 1928. On the back April 5, 1928. Willard Race White Market, Dick Willard co-owner. Stanley Willard - son. Old location. Carbide light, hole with tank that held carbide, twine, fake ham for Easter. Leone Argent. More details on Race and the store are on p. 106 of the Arcadia Coupeville book. PNRO, page 163: built in 1890 for F. Puget Race Drug Store. Lower part a shoe store. Drug store later rented as an apartment. In the 1960s it became the Old Town Shop. At some point it was Brenda's Gifts, then it became Aqua (continues in 2019). Apparently there is a rental apartment on the lower floor. Per the Arcadia Coupeville book, page 120: In 1909 F. P. Race built the first telephone office between his drug store and the Sedge building (ICHS). Per PNRO, page 162 - the exchange from 1900 to the 1930s. From folder: Coupeville, 2 NW Front Street, Race Drugstore, Old Town Shop, Brenda's Gifts, Aqua. From old entry: Unit 6, Drawer B (Coupeville Race Drug Store)
