Description

Photograph of Seattle's harbor, 1880, prior to the Great Fire (1889). The shape of Seattle’s harbor was very different in 1880. This view from the vicinity of 12th Avenue South and South Dearborn Street shows the city’s first rail line, the Columbia and Puget Sound Railroad, curving onto the jetty that held mills and wharves. Much of Elliott Bay inside the jetty was later filled.
