Coupeville Front Street, 1941Entry/Object ID
2019.042.146Description
Photo of Front Street looking west; the dirt road of Front Street leads up the hill; now a path. On the left is the Glenwood Hotel. On the right is the Cash and Carry (now Toby's Tavern) with two gas pumps. Also on the right: L. N. Sill General Merchandise and in the distance the Starwana Hotel. Might still be a dirt road. On the back is a tiny newspaper clipping: This view of the main street in Coupeville indicates the inadequacy of this bustling town to furnish entertainment for a garrison of soldier. Stamped Aug 16, 1941.
