Photograph of a canoe race taking place. C. 14 August 1935.
Typewritten blurb pasted on the reverse of the photo states, "Ten Indian war canoes jockeying for positions at the starting lineup in Penn's Cove, off Coupeville on Whidbey Island, Wash, for the annual three-mile race for the International War Canoe Race Trophy. The Nooksacks in the Question Mark, fourth from the camera, won the race by a nose and regained the championship they held in 1932 and '33. This race is one of the outstanding events each year for Pacific Northwest Indians and they spend long hours training for speed and endurance. Credit Line (ACME). 8/14/35."Photograph Details
