Description

Photo of a wood slat shack with front porch, central door, two windows; one window on the side. Pile of wood for fireplace on the porch; other items strewn around. On the back: Site #5 - Captain Benjamin Barstow's trading post established in 1853. He and a companion, G. N. McConaha, were drowned on May 4, 1854 while returning form the legislative session in Olympia. His probate lists all the items carried by a frontier store, the inventory showing pickled onions, fancy satinette pants, gator shoes and Calinger's liniment. During the probate, one shoat was killed by wolves and several others injured. The building is now a part of the present home built on this site.
