Photograph of Jacob Ebey's home (left), constructed in 1855, and blockhouse (right), constructed in 1856. A typed clipping pasted on the reverse of the photo reads, "On west side of island, overlooking Ebey's Prairie, stands old frame home of Jacob Ebey, father of colonel killed by Indians. This view from rear shows blockhouse built for protection and later used by Winfield Ebey as first law office on Whidby Island. Isaac Ebey was first permanent settler; his father, who fought in War of 1812, came soon after."
