Description

On back: "Steamer Discovery (90 ft.), built in Port Townsend 1889 as a tug for Capt. Thomas Grant, purchased by White Star Steamship Co. of Seattle and long themed to 111 ft. Refitted as a passenger and freight boat for local funder service to Nome. Came down from Alaska each fall and ran during one off season on the Seattle-San Juan Islands-Bellingham route. She normally operated between Nome and Golovin Bay. Steam tug 1889 to 1898. Then Alaska as passenger & freight steamer. After leaving Unga in October 1903, she disappeared with a loss of all hands (26)."
