An Ojibwe / Anishinaabe bandolier bag ( gaashkibidaagan ). The bag has no pocket, dating it to the late 1880s but not later than the 1910s. The beadwork on the bag is loomwork attached to black cotton with red trim. The bag likely originated in what is now Minnesota and Wisconsin.
The beadwork consists of geometric sawtooth star like pattern in mustard yellow and dark blue on a white background.Gashkibidaagan are a piece of men's regalia and a status symbol. The bag is in fairly good condition for it's age, but the chevron tassels at the bottom are falling apart due to age. Any beads that have fallen off are in a bag with the bandolier.
