A black and white photo of three people sitting in a roofless car. The back of the photo reads "Nan Hopper, Grand Marshall of St Patrick's Day 1984 --Dorothy Neil"
Sweet Dorothy Neil was an Irish girl with Mount Vernon roots; reporter/photographer, columnist at Whidbey News-Times. Author/historian. Co-publisher of Spindrift magazine with Chic Schulle, Hugh and Lee Brainard. Dorothy Neil was a Mount Vernon native who married and raised her family in Oak Harbor. Dorothy wrote a newspaper column and referred often to her “garden friend,” who was actually her husband. Mel didn’t relish the thought of seeing his name in print on a routine basis. Hence the “garden friend” moniker."Collection
