Wood carving by Mario Sanchez depicting the Convent of Mary Immaculate formerly on Truman Avenue with sisters and school children walking on sidewalk, and man pushing ice cream cart.
Caption in file reads, 'The convent on Truman Avenue, with its dormered roofs and towers, was built in 1878. It was founded by the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary, a Canadian order that established a school in Key West in 1868. The beautiful building should have been saved from demolition, but restoration of historic structures was not in vogue when it was torn down in 1968 and replaced by four modern boxes. The four trees in front are Royal Poinciana. Their clusters of brilliant red flowers continue to bloom through summer'.Type of Sculpture
