Scope and Content

169 letters and other paper items written to or by Helen Higgins Dickey Butler between 1861-1884. Letters were transcribed during winter of 2010-2011 by Connie Parker and Diane O'Brien Helen grew up in L'ville, probably on Greenacre Road (possibly at #145); she taught school in L'ville, married & was widowed by the age of 26, attended Westbrook Seminary for several terms, taught in Camden, remarried and lived out her life with her second husband, farmer Ben Butler on Atlantic Highway (about #2200). The house burned in the 1970s. Helen had no children. Included among the letters are three from L'ville men serving in the Civil War. The letters are stored in three boxes with a fourth box containing some untranscribed material as well as additional research papers.
