Harold M. Shuman and Elayne C. Shore are pictured in front of 124 Wilder Avenue in October, 1945 before one of their first dates. Harold was about to leave on his final assignment with the Merchant Marines, a voyage that took him around the world on the S.S. Salina victory ship. During his more than three years of active service, he was aboard two torpedoed ships. He returned safely, and the couple married in 1946. Harold died shortly after the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake destroyed the Shuman's Los Gatos home. SHU099Collection
