BU026Description
Lyman J. Burrell (1801-1884). Painting of Lyman J. Burrell at age 77. He was 48 years old when he came to California for gold. When he picked out some land near the summit of the Santa Cruz Mountains, he thought it was government land. "It seemed a vast , solitary wilderness -- no houses, and no roads. I knew that bears and lions dwelt there, but I feared them not." BU026Collection
