Scope and Content

This article is about the D.A.R.'s participation in the Town's California Centennial Celebration in 1949. The Los Gatos Chapter had an entry in the Flower Show and in the Centennial Parade. For the Flower Show, the ladies set up "An Old Fashioned Garden," with two Daughters in colonial costume sitting and chatting, and two Granddaughters handing out nosegays to passersby. Ruth Comfort Mitchell (Mrs. Sanborn Young) was one of the Daughters in the tableau. That display won a first prize. The article also described the D.A.R. float in the Parade -- Betsy Ross sitting by an heirloom sewing cabinet, sewing on a flag. The float won a third prize. DAR004
