JON048Description
This portrait of twins Geraldine Carrie McGrady and Genevieve Julia McGrady was taken on July 29, 1894 by Burnett & Slattery in San Francisco. The girls were born on December 28, 1892. Geraldine married Billy Jones, and she died on December 31, 1953. In her memoirs, Geraldine recalled that she and her twin sister were born in a long triangular brick house on the corner of 17th Street and Albion Avenue in San Francisco, in the Mission District. Across the street was the estate of James Phelan. "Papa was a shoemaker, of which we were very proud," she wrote. "He could make shoes for anyone. His father taught him the trade." JON048Collection
