Description

Sam Jennings House which stood north of the Halifax Road and east of Havemeyer reservoir. The Grandmother of Lloyd Jennings of N.Railroad Avenue is on the porch. Picture from a watercolor by a daugher ot T.A. Havemeyer.The Jennings and some Mountain people worked for Mountain Side. Bischoff, page 144. Natalie Havemeyer left a bequest to Sam Jennings in her will. Bergen County Wills. Lloyd Jennings whose grandmother is shown on this porch was a pitcher in the 1920's for the Mahwah Tigers, a semipro team. He was offered a position on a Brooklyn professional team but turned it down. Bischoff page 242. Lloyd Jennings recalled that H.O. Havemeyer decided to move people out of Green Mountain Valley (Havemeyer Hollow). Gave his father (who had been an employee on the Havemeyer estate) $5.00 to move out. The frame church in Havemeyer Hollow was dissassembled and moved to Grove Street as the AME Zion congregation. Bischoff page 247
