Description

This ornament is part of the White House Historical Association's series of collectible ornaments. It is the twenty-sixth in the series. The ornament commemorates the Presidency of Benjamin Harrison. According to the insert, "Inspired by Harrison's family's Victorian Christmas tree, this 24 karat gold-finished ornament interprets the first recorded tree to decorate the White House. This tree, laden with baubes and garland, is a canvas for all sorts of treats and toys. Beneath the tree are the presents the Harrison grandchildren received: a toy trainand awooden sled await Benjamin, Mary's rosy-cheeked doll sits on a tricycle, and nearby is Marthena's much wished for dollhouse. A three-foot-high Santa Claus completes the season's spectacle. The original ornament was on the tree in the Blue Room of the White House during the 2008 Christmas season. A red satin ribbon for hanging the ornament is attached. The ornament includes an informational insert telling about the ornament and the White House Historical Association. The ornament is in a green box with gold a gold border and has a black velveteen liner highlighted with gold. The lid of the box has an image of the ornament on the right side along with the words "The White House Historical Association Christmas Ornament 2008" in white and gold lettering at the left side of the lid. The bottom of the box is of the same green/gold design as the lid with a sketch of the White House in the center,and a small white bar code near the bottom and the words "Visit www.whitehousehistory.org" in white between the sketch and the bar code.
