Description

This item is a celluloid, metal and cloth badge. A medallion of President McKinley, enamel, surrounded by decorative metal is suspended by 2 lengths of chain, each measuring 1.5 inches, and hanging from a 3 inch long enamel holder. The back of the medallion has a union insignia with the words reading "Made by The Whitehead & Hoag Co. Newark, NJ" above and the words "Makers of UNION MADE badges" below. Within the insignia are the words reading "Metal Polishers Buffers Blasters Brass Molders Brass Silver Workers Union of USA." The holder is decorated with 5 U.S. flags, two on each side and one in the center. Surrounding the center flag is an eagle above, green sprigs in an arc on each side with cannons, and a 5 pointed star containing a tiny design of men below. The words "Whitehead & Hoag Co. Newark, NJ are inscribed at the bottom and on the back of the holder. This is attached to a black ribbon with words reading "Wm. McKinley Post, No. 25 G. A. R. Canton, Ohio" in silver. Metal galloon fringe adorns the bottom of the ribbon. On the back of the ribbon is a white manufacturers label. The following words are written on this label as best as can be read. "This badge manufactured by The Whitehead & Hoag Co. Makers of badges, buttons, banners, signs, and advertising novelties. Main Office and Factory -- Newark, N.J. All Goods Guaranteed Union Made.
