Scope and Content

Six attached pages of ca. 1925 blueprints for the house at what is now numbered 189 Sagamore Road. At the time of the original plans the house was numbered 193 Sagamore Road. Per an e-mail from the donor, "I was born and raised at 193 Sagamore Road, Millburn, NJ and after college and marriage I bought 44 Nottingham Road, Short Hills, NJ where I raised my children. I have in my possession the mechanical drawings for my parents' home on Sagamore Road. As was common at the time, an architect in Manhattan was contracted to draw the plans for this house to be placed on the then Coney Estate which is now 189 Sagamore Road. The house was constructed in the mid-1920's with some variations from these drawings; mostly in the front window treatment for the first floor. The drawings are, because they are over 85 years old quite fragile "blue prints". I lived in this house from 1930 until I was married in 1968. It was sold by my mother about twenty years later. I would like to give these drawings to your society." (NOTE: Donor may have meant the house was placed on the then KEENEY estate). The lower right corner of the blueprints state: "House for Wyoming, N.J.; Walter B. Anderson, George F. Root, 3rd, Associated Architects; 280 Madison Ave.; N.Y. City." All blueprint pages have a 5"-9" horizontal tear on the left edge, toward the center of the page. Most pages have multiple smaller horizontal tears along the right edge. All corners are bumped and all edges have edge wear, especially along the right edge. A 1" wide x 1.5" high piece is missing from the right edge of page five. A 6" wide x 3" high piece is missing at the top right corner of page six. All pages are yellowed, especially along the edges. Page six is soiled on the back and has "Mr. Maxfield" written in pencil on the back. Included in the donation is a 6.5" wide x 14" high paper from Herrigel, Bolan, and Manahan (of 241 Millburn Avenue) titled Statement of Closing (stored in file for that house, at . Also included is a smaller, more recent newspaper real estate ad for the house at 189 Sagamore Rd. (stored in file for that house, at ).
