20 Fox Hill Lane, c. 1873-1881Description
Photograph from the 1978 David Gibson survey of the Gardener's Cottage from the Hack Estate. The Hack house was built in c. 1872. This house was probably built at a later date and would have been used by the Estate's Superintendent (also described as Gardener).
The house was bought by Philip Osborne in 1940 from the Stone-Bound Co., who purchased it from Catherine and Stewart Hartshorn in 1939. Mr. Osborne hired the architect Charles Porter from East Orange to help him convert the cottage into a home.
The house appeared in an article in American Home magazine (June 1950).
According to a document in the museum archives, the house date to c. 1850 and was associated with R. Finney. It was described as "Gardener's cottage."Collection
