Fruits on a Black DishDescription
Choosing carefully to offset the still life on the surface or table so thate there is interest in this composition was intentional by the artist. In order to keep visual complexity and focus on the fruits, Segal used negative space on the left of the canvas to act as a foil to his subjects. When an artist repeats a subject/series, it is important to make some changes in presentation so that the whole does not become static, repetitive, or boring. Segal's use of paint and color to show texture is evident. This still life is more fully developed than many of his previous pieces.Collection
