This is one of two (3" x 2.75") cast brass lion's heads used as decoration on a clock. The note that came with them says they were clock ornaments and also words on the top line that I can't read. It may designate a school where the clock resided.
The lion heads have two holes near the mouth. There may have been a ring in the holes similar to the silver lion head shown in the attached photos.Collection
