Description

Grey painted square case with side-hinged top and metal straps, sectioned inside. Paper label inside lid lists types of contents for machine gun platoon. From Ft. Vancouver, Washington to Benicia Arsenal. Stencil on top, "The maxim machine gun was invented by American Hiram Maxim in England in 1883... took the name of Vickers-Maxim, ...later ... Vickers." The Maxim was used by every major power, at one tme or another, from 1900 until WW1". Dictionary of Weapons & Military Terms, page 298. It is 30" x 30" with a depth of 12 1/2". The condition is scraped, worn, dirty, and metal rusted.
