A historic Palestinian town and regional center in Al Naqab, situated at the northern edge of the Naqab and at the intersection of routes connecting southern Palestine with Gaza, Hebron, and the Sinai. Bir Saba developed as the principal administrative, commercial, and agricultural center of the region, serving the surrounding tribal lands and villages; the wider landscape supported rain-fed cultivation of wheat and barley where rainfall permitted, alongside extensive livestock raising and grazing. The town also stood within a much older landscape of settlement, trade, and water management, with archaeological evidence documenting earlier Nabataean and other ancient activity in the region.Also Known As
