Place Name
al-Bireh (ٱلْبِيرَه)Place Description
Al-Bireh is a historic Palestinian town in the central highlands of Palestine, immediately adjacent to Ramallah, situated on the central ridge of the West Bank at an elevation of roughly 860 meters. Historically, the town developed as an important agricultural, commercial, and administrative center, with its surrounding hills supporting olive groves, vineyards, figs, almonds, and cereal cultivation, while its position along routes connecting Jerusalem, Nablus, and the northern and central highlands contributed to its commercial importance. Following the 1948 war, al-Bireh became part of the West Bank, which was administered by Jordan from 1948 until 1967.Also Known As
