Note

Prague, during the Soviet occupation had an atmosphere of oppression and a seething undercurrent of anger. The coal blackened skies added to the effect. Yet the Charles Bridge is more beautiful in tones of black and grey. The bridge links the 11c. Old Town Square (Staroměstské náměstí), Visrhad castle and alchemists lane, with the 14th c. New Town (Nove Mesto), the heart of which is Wenceslas Square.
