General Notes

Historical Note

Note

Note was taped to the back of the painting, likely put there by the gallery who sold it. "BEAUTIFUL ORIGINAL WATERCOLOR PAINTING BY ONE OF THE MOST FAMOUS EARLY CALIFORNIA PAINTERS PERCY GRAY. Percy Gray was bron in San Francisco in 1869 and did most of his early studies in San Francisco and New York. Almost all of his better known works are landscapes like this painting. Gray lived the later part of his life in Monterey, California and also died there in 1938. Many of his works are permanently exhibited in California museums, like The Oakland Museum of Arts, the museums in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York and many others. Gray is listed in the 'Dictionary of Painters...' by M. Fielding, the 'Index of Artists' by D.T. Mallett and many others."
