Franz Kafka lived and worked in Prague, Czech Republic. However when I spent ten days there in 1985 during the Soviet occupation, there was no evidence of his life there despite his enormous fame worldwide. All of the Czech authors that I had read were banned in the country at the time and the conversations I had hoped to have were not possible. I am so thankful for our freedoms.
