Description

Full mount taxidermied specimen of a willet (Catoptrophorus semipalmatus). The specimen is on a white base and is standing with its wings closed and head tilted over its left shoulder. The specimen is dark brown with white patterns on the back and light brown with dark patterns on the belly. The legs and feet are long and thin. Family: Scolopacidae Genus: Tringa Species: Catoptrophorus semipalmatus

Notes

The eastern willet breeds in coastal salt marshes while the western willet breeds in freshwater prairie marshes, sloughs, potholes and other inland wetlands. In winter both subspecies are coastal birds being found on both rocky and sandy coasts as well as on mudflats and in coastal marshes.
