Note

Dear Carl, Many thanks for your good note of Jan. 30th. Enclosed cheque to Lee's Tree Surgeons for $210.00, also cheque for $200 for the saw you had to buy. We should at least keep the wood - it seems silly not to store such valuable and beautiful material as the wood of these old trees - otherwise the tree people will merely sell it at a huge profit. If you wish to get rid of the wood and saw it into proper lengths for use, please get in touch with the professional lumberyard people. Regarding the piano, I hear from Mr Heilbron that Bekins already have the piano and I have sent him a cheque for its shimpment. We will, therefore, at this moment have to forget about Nickell's Van and Storage: we can give them another job next time. Regarding the solution of your life tenancy, I would like to make a proposal that I pay you a pension of $1000 a year as long as you and Ruth, singly or both, occupy your house. You can then pay the taxes out of the sum, which would guarantee your security. We had a most fascinating time in Israel and will tell you more about it if there is a chance when we meet. All the best to you both. I have written to Mr Heilbron to extend the insurance to cover Cathedral Oaks: I am surprised this was not done at the time of the transference of the property to me. Yours sincerely, {inscription} Yehudi Menuhin Yehudi Menuhin Mr Carl Coate 19750 Alma Bridge Road Los Gatos Calif. 95030 U.S.A.
