Description

Clark’s Grocery: In 1901, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Clark opened a grocery store at 2511 San Pablo Avenue, at the southeast intersection with Pinole Valley Road. The Charles Clarks, his parents, and later brother William Clark and his family lived above the store. The Clark brothers eventually went to work at the Hercules Powder Company. William Clark moved his family across San Pablo Avenue into the Queen-Anne style home adjacent to the northern half of the Pinole Creek Bridge at 2494 San Pablo Avenue. Charles Clark lived in a large Victorian home behind his brother’s house, adjacent to today’s Pinole Senior Center on Charles Street, named after Charles Clark.
