Irene MartinDescription
Irene Martin was known for her long stay as principal of Pinole-Hercules School #1 during the 1950s and 1960s. She became principal in 1951 and rose to Assistant Superintendent of the Pinole-Hercules School District.
A proud graduate of San Francisco State College, she always talked about going to college with actor Harry Morgan. She was also in charge of the school orchestra for graduation. She had a hearty laugh and was known to give a friendly back-slap greeting. Miss Martin also enjoyed bringing coffee-ring pastries to her staff from Carmen’s Bakery in Rodeo.
Miss Martin gave a great deal of herself to keeping Pinole-Hercules School #1 running smoothly while dealing with school business and enforcing rules. Even in the 1960s, her women teachers could wear no sleeveless blouses.Made/Created
