Description

PLAZA SCHOOL/POST OFFICE: The 1904 Plaza School class, taught by Frances Ellerhorst, attended a small schoolhouse on Pear Street. Samuel and Raphaela Tennent donated the land for the school. The school was demolished in 1933. Ellerhorst spent her entire adult life as a teacher and principal in Pinole. Ellerhorst School in Pinole Valley is named after her. The United States Post Office, built on the site of the Plaza School, opened in 1960. Previously, the post office was a short walk away on Tennent Avenue, near the Golden West Hotel.
