1900 Street scene, PinoleDescription
Life in Pinole transformed into an emerging pattern of community spirit and energy. The hub of activity shifted to a central downtown supported by the waterfront commerce and the valley ranches. Wagons of hay and grain and cattle-drives still came from the valley down Tennent Road to the bay. However, they now passed through a bustling, new downtown with wooden sidewalks, hotels, and saloons. The horse is in front of the post office on Tennent Avenue. This is looking north, crossing San Pablo Avenue, toward San Pablo Bay. Notice the couple in the horse and carriage at the far right, proceeding down Tennent Avenue toward the Santa Fe train trestle and the bay. The building with the cupola in the middle is today’s Antlers Tavern.Copyright
