Flood of 1958 #14 - Downtown (Mariotti)Description
NORTH SIDE OF SAN PABLO AVENUE LOOKING WEST: The flood of 1958 produced many dramatic photos of downtown Pinole. Stores and homes were flooded, as were some cars that tried to navigate through the water. All of the buildings on the south side of San Pablo Avenue in the above photo are gone today. Vedder’s, a restaurant, and all of the businesses in the brick building at the northeast intersection of San Pablo and Tennent avenues, are also part of the city’s history. The Pinole United Methodist Church now sits atop Shale Hill.Copyright
