JOSEPH LEWIS STORE: Charles Clark sold his grocery store to Joseph Lewis in 1912 and went to work for Hercules Powder Company. Lewis delivered groceries in a horse cart, accompanied by his dog, Star. Every year he gave commemorative china plates to his customers. The Pinole Historical Society has several of them, donated by Marilyn Ponting. In 1920, Joseph Lewis sold the grocery store to his brother, Bill. In the 1940s it was sold to Glen Ellis and remained the only grocery store at the east end of the city. Then came Mickey’s Bait Shop and Clark Rentals. Sabor Latino 17, a Mexican restaurant, and Amazing Haircuts, are in this building now.Copyright
