Name/Title

Flood of 1958 #3 (Ann Snyder, 280 Calais Drive)

Description

1958 FLOOD FROM 280 CALAIS DRIVE: Pinole Creek took a circuitous route on the way from its Alhambra Valley watershed to San Pablo Bay. Its hairpin turns and shallow depth created havoc for the city’s residents throughout the first 60 years of the 20th century. The 1916 Pinole Creek flood floated wooden sidewalks into the bay, and the 1940 flood left three feet of water downtown. The last of the Bernardo Fernandez warehouses are seen at the end of Tennent Avenue from the intersection of Tennent Avenue and LaSalle Drive during the 1958 flood. A motor home storage yard occupies that space today.
