Description

The westbound Santa Fe train #63 approaches the Pinole depot at night. This photo was taken before March 3, 1968, which was the last run of an Alco PA diesel to and from Richmond. The final Santa Fe depot, designed by H. L. Gilman and built in 1945, replaced the one serving Pinole from 1901-1944, when it burned to the ground. Gilman’s design was developed for Santa Fe depots on the Coast Lines during World War II. The Pinole depot was demolished by the railroad in August 1998.
