Description

Pinole’s band was a fixture in the city’s parades for much of the 20th century. Bill Lewis founded the Pinole Municipal Band. It was a time of community involvement and pride, even during the Depression. Pinole’s ethnic backgrounds mixed together and found their fun in lodges, social clubs, sports teams, bands, and parades. The Pinole Municipal Band was at the forefront of many parades, and led the procession in the 1926 Holy Ghost Parade. Pinole's schools supplied well-trained musicians to the community bands.
