Description

Margaret Collins (wearing corsage) was honored at her retirement dinner. Fellow teachers included (Standing, L-R), Catherine Beavers and Genia Litman, and (seated (lc) next to Collins), Theresa Maloney. Collins was a student at the old Plaza School before Pinole-Hercules School #1 was built. She taught third grade at Pinole-Hercules School #1 until becoming principal in 1942, after Frances Ellerhorst retired. She was superintendent of the Pinole-Hercules Elementary School District until 1965, when the district was absorbed into the new Richmond Unified School District. Collins School on Pinole Valley Road (formerly Pinole-Hercules School #2) is named after her.
