Holy Ghost Parade protest June 1946 #2Description
Veterans’ Memorial Protest. In 1946, a group of Pinole World War II veterans requested that the city build a war memorial honoring those who had served and died. There was a hotly contested city council vote. It did not pass. The veterans wanted to have a protest float in the Holy Ghost Parade, but were turned down by parade organizers. Bee Hansen and Ed Moellman got an outhouse, put it on the back of a pick-up truck, and snuck the truck into the parade. The float was their protest statement to the city council. On the truck are Ed LeFebvre (far left), Clarence Faria (head, fourth from left), Paul Mello (suit).Copyright
