Description

This photo shows the intersection of Quinan and Park streets in the foreground. The home at the lower right, 610 Quinan Street, was built in 1890 by Bernardo Fernandez. He sold it to Henry Taylor for 10 gold pieces. When Henry died, he left it to a niece, Sarah Alvarez. When she died in 1943, it went into her estate, and Mechanics Bank, which owned the mortgage, sold it to Antone Lopes Sr. Antone had been the gardener at the Downer Mansion when E.M. Downer Jr., the bank’s president, was a young boy. Antone bought the home and the lot next door, which he gave to Antone Jr. to build his family home.
