Queen Anne Cottages on Quinan Street (8 inches) cityDescription
QUINAN STREET: One of the few preserved areas from the late 1800s in the city, nearly all of the homes were built for individuals who either worked at the California Powder Works or in other Pinole businesses. They are great examples of Queen Anne, Italianate, and Neoclassic architecture. Several prominent people and families in the city’s history lived on this street, including Theresa Curran Baldwin, Antone Lopes Sr., his son, Tony Lopes Jr. and his family, and Armand Marieiro and his family. Armand owned Arm’s Grocery, later Blackie’s. Quinan Street was named after Capt. William Russel Quinan, a West Point graduate who was superintendent of the California Powder Works from 1883–1939.Copyright
