In 1881, newcomers C.H. Ellerhorst bought nine acres and the family home of Kate Cousins, daughter of Dr. Samuel and Rafaela Tennent. The C.H. and Christina Ellerhorst children were made up of five girls and one boy: Annie, Dora, Alice, Emma, Frances (Pansy), and Henry. His daughter, Miss Frances L. Ellerhorst began teaching at the Sheldon School in 1895 at the age of 21. She taught in Pinole schools and was the Principal for 40 years, retiring in 1950. Ellerhorst School in Pinole Valley is named after her. She died in her late 90s in the 1970s.Copyright
