Name/Title
23-Town Tavern, Post Office, Valentine Cleaners, Shell Station, April 1961Description
TOWN TAVERN/COMMUNITY CORNER: Pinole was about to undergo another major facelift shortly after this photo was taken in the 1960s when the Town Tavern and adjacent buildings were torn down. The tavern, formerly the Golden West Hotel and Jimmy Silvas’s bar at the turn of the 20th century, was replaced by a gas station and convenience store, called the Pump House. The Shell station is gone, too; a landscaped community corner with a “Welcome to Pinole” sign was built on the station’s vacant lot. Note the price of a gallon of gas. Those were the days!Copyright
