Description

Irish immigrants Michael and Penelope Scanlan purchased the land along Pinole Creek in 1870 for $7,000 for 335 acres, plus 72 acres of the adjoining El Sobrante Grant. The Scanlans raised 10 children here. Henry, the sixth child, born in 1861, was the last Scanlan to operate the ranch. In 1911, the ranch was sold to William Mohring, whose descendants work the ranch today.
