Description

Places of Old Pinole are now joined with the faces of “New Pinole.” Only a few Pinole landmarks and homes of the past survived the ravages of time and the modernization demolitions of the 1950s and 1960s. The Bank of Pinole celebrates its centennial anniversary in 2015. It survived the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake, which led to the leveling of the bank’s neighbors made of brick. The 100 year-old structure is a prime example of a community treasure now needing protection from the more destructive forces of politics and apathy. Ideas and attitudes change very slowly. The notion that nothing ever changes in Pinole may still exist. However, the true reality of an ever-changing Pinole also exists within the memory walk taken in Pinole Through Time.
